Captain Mark Olvera was born in the city of Los Angeles in 1956. He has an Associate Arts Degree from East Los Angeles College and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of La Vern and is a graduate of West Point Leadership school and the Command Development Course. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1990,
Lieutenant in 1999, and Captain in 2006. Captain Olvera is currently the Commanding Officer of Newton Division. He has been married for 23 years and has two sons.
Captain Olvera plays guitar and sings with his wife and two sons at two local churches. The Olvera family has been involved in the Catholic Music Ministry for over 7 years. He is also a Board Member with the non-profit organization, A Better LA (ABLA); an organization designed to reduce gang violence in Los Angeles.
