Captain Gregory C. Allen was born in Luiseville Kentucky in 1956. He was raised in The Los Angeles area, and graduated from Carson High School in 1973. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Union Institute University, and has completed course work towards his Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. He is a graduate of the Department’s Westpoint Leadership Program and the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Program.
Captain Allen began his law enforcement career as a Police Student Worker in 1974, and entered the Police Academy as a recruit in 1977. He was promoted to Detective in 1982, to Sergeant in 1984, and to Lieutenant in 2004. As an officer, his assignments included Patrol at 77th, Southeast, and Wishire Divisions, Juvenile Narcotics Section, Detectives,Special Problems units, and Vice. As a Detective, he was assigned to Southeast and 77th Detectives and to the Police Commission. As a Sergeant he was assigned to Patrol, Area adjutant, Community Relations Unit, Planning and Research Division, DARE Division, Training Group, Internal Affairs Division, Vice Officer-In-Charge, Arrest and Control Unit Officer-In-Charge, and Communications Division Assistant Watch Commander.
As a Lieutenant, Captain Allen was assigned to 77th Division as Watch Commander, Detective Assistant Commanding Officer, Officer-In-Charge of the 77th Area Homicide Unit, and as the Commanding Officer of Southwest Detectives.
Captain Gregory Allen is a resident of Los Angeles, California.
